A new, modern look for a top IT firm
THE 1990S-ERA LAYOUT had an overall cramped and outdated
appearance. Pioneer Investments wanted a new design that would
help to attract a new generation of talent and investors.
Billed as the “people who get IT,” CDW prides itself on staying at he forefront of integrated IT solutions.
So when the Fortune 500 company consolidated its headquarters
into a late 1980s office building in
Lincolnshire, IL, it needed a sleek,
modern design to match.
The new building, which was
also expanded to support CDW’s
growth, features clean lines with
pops of color and welcoming
amenity spaces. The project
transformed the dated office into a
and Boring to
contemporary workplace complete
with a full-service kitchen, which
required some additional infrastructure for the base building.
“The kitchen needed all new
MEP infrastructure to support
it, so coordinating that with the
architecture and existing building
conditions was a challenge,” notes
Jeffrey Martin, Associate Partner
with Syska Hennessy Group. “They
also wanted to reuse as much of
the existing equipment as possible, including some older terminal units. We were able to do that
while still providing them with a
design that met their temperature
control and acoustical needs and
integrated with the new layout.”

“Open ceilings are a trend we’ve been seeing with
design the last few years,” notes Jeffrey Martin,
