SAP, AN ENTERPRISE
SOFTWARE CREATOR,
offers a casual workplace
where staff are empowered to
reconfigure the physical layout
as often as they see fit. Fluidity at the Palo Alto Hills, CA
campus is achieved with mobile
desks on wheels. Like modern
classrooms, worksurfaces can
be clustered for team sessions
or positioned for individual
work. Flexible access to power
and data is delivered via a
2-inch raised floor system.

IRON MOUNTAIN, an information management and solution provider, significantly
cut back on its real estate footprint when
it transitioned from a nine-story office to
a space with only two floors. Based on job
function, 150 of the 600 Boston-based
employees are enrolled in a mobile work
program. Approximately 40 people share
a workstation with a partner on alternating
days. This allows the company to provide
100 workstations for a ratio of 1. 5 employees
to 1 seat.
Low-height workstations with frosted
glass panels are arranged in neighborhoods
that encourage collaboration while avoiding
the feel of a large sea of people. Reservable
workstations devoted to remote workers
and touchdown workstations in bullpen
configurations are interspersed throughout.
When flex employees work from the
office, their desks are equipped with a wireless ergonomic keyboard and a monitor
attached to a flexible arm. This configuration reduces the eye and joint strain problems caused by small laptop screens.
